Create Task and To do list in Microsoft Outlook 2007 and 2010

Many people keep a list of stuff to do on a spreadsheet, paper, or with the consolidation of paper and electronic methods. In Outlook you can combine the n-number of lists into a single one, get track tasks, and the reminder progress. This article enlightens the method to create task and to-do lists in Outlook 2007 and 2010 versions.

Few Simple Steps to Create Task in Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010

For Outlook 2007: Open File menu and point to New then click on Task.

  • In the Subject box type the name for the task.

  • On the Task tab, in the Action group click on Save & Close option or continue with the following steps to customize the task.

  • Set the Start date and Due date for the task.

Note: If you specify the Start date, the due date field is automatically set to the same day. You can change the Due date field to any date that you want.

  • If you want to make the task recur, on the Taskbar, in the Options group then click on Recurrence.

  • In the Task recurrence dialog box, click on (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly) with which the task should recur.
  • After that click on Ok to close the Task Recurrence dialog box.

  • If you want to add a reminder alert, select the Reminder check box and then enter the date and time for the reminder.
  • On the Task tab in the Action, group click on Save and Close button.

Create Task from an Outlook item

  • Drag an e-mail to the To-do Bar.
  • Drag item to task list section of To-do Bar.
  • If you see a red line with an arrow at each position where you want to put the task release mouse button.
  • Drag an Outlook item to Tasks.

When you drag an Outlook item to Tasks in the Navigation pane, all features of the task item can be used. The contents of items, other than attachments are copied to the body of the task. Even if the original item is deleted the task is available with the copied content of the item.

  • Drag the item to the Tasks tab on the Navigation pane.

Create Tasks in To-do Bar

To-do Bar appears in MS Outlook view by default. To create a task in it follow the given below steps.

  • In To-do Bar, click on the Type a new task box and after that enter the description of the task. Then press the enter button to finish. The task appears with today’s date on the To-Do list.
  • To open a task in the New window double click on Type a new task box in To-Do Bar. Here you can enter further detail about the task.

Create Task in Daily Task List in Calendar

Daily Task list show up only in Outlook Calendar week and day views

  • Rest pointer in Daily Task List under the desired day.
  • Click to add task.
  • Type a subject for a task and then click on Enter.

By default start and due dates are set for the day under which you enter the task. To change the start or due date of the task, drag the task to the desired day. Right-click on task and click on Open to manually change the start or due date.
